A Southwestern Ontario utility was approached by a customer interested in developing multiple buildings on some prime downtown real estate. With the substantial cost of constructing an infrastructure of below grade vaults the decision was made to install padmount switchgears.
This decision brought many other issues to light such as space requirements, extremely high fault withstand ratings, current limiting fuse requirements and of course this was all to be installed within a short time frame.
With the help of the utilities design personnel we looked at various padmount models and finalized on a style that met their ratings, gave operating personnel a safe means of operations and was able to accommodate full range current limiting fuses.

(1) Deadfront Current Limiting Fuses.
(2) 3 point latching door locking system with pentahead bolt and provisions for padlocks.

The result was a padmount switch that had independent access points for the fuse compartment, incoming high voltage cable terminations and lastly an operating (switching) compartment that is isolated from any high voltage cables/elbows.
In the end, the utility received a product that met their specific requirements without compromising safety and quality. Through the cooperative efforts of the utility and Canada Power Products design team another customer has reaped the benefits of a custom designed padmount solution from Canada Power Products.

(1) Colour coded pressure gauge & low pressure warning device. (2) Rotary operator (close-open-ground). (3) Viewing windows.
