Government policies and other tax incentives encourage development of renewable energy. Wind generated electricity is on the rise, a close to 30% annual growth in installed capacity in both U.S. and Canada. Presently, wind energy represents about 20% in Demark, 8.0% in Germany, and about 0.6% in U.S., in terms of their respective generated capacity. EPRI's projects that by 2020; wind power would represent as much as 5% generated capacity in U.S. Canada Power Products, being a switchgear manufacturer and distribution automation system supplier, has been a part of this renewable energy market for over a decade with its first Wind Farm project in the mid 1990's.
