Controller

Overview of the Position
Reporting to the COO, the Controller will be responsible for supervising the accounting functions of the organization. This includes the development and maintenance of the financial reporting systems of the company in accordance with the company objectives and generally accepted accounting principles.


Responsibilities

Financial Reporting
• Responsible for the preparation of the monthly financial statements comparing actual performance to plan, along with gross margin reports of the months shipments.
• Principal manager of the accounting activities of the company, maintaining appropriate internal controls
• Manage the annual independent audit of the company’s financial statements

Annual Plan and Monthly Forecasts
• Responsible for the management and coordination of the annual operating plan and department budgets
• Prepares monthly P & L projections for the upcoming 3 months

Accounting Operations
• Oversees the cost accounting function
• Reviews and evaluates performance and recommends appropriate training and education
• Responsible for Accounts Payable and Switchboard functions
• Assists in the management of the company’s cash and debt balances
• Manages, assigns and audits the work of subordinates. Evaluates the performance of subordinates against their job requirements and performance goals within the time frame designated for their position level
• Responsible for reconciliation of accruals and other significant accounts
• Personally engages in the more critical and confidential aspects of accounting

Other Responsibilities
• Responsible for the coordination and reconciliation of the annual physical inventory
• Responsible for NAFTA certificates
• Directs the timely preparation of accounting records, reports, special analyses and annual government reports by law
• Develops policies, systems and special financial studies

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Computer literate, skilled with Spreadsheets (Excel) and Word
• Self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills
• Organized and able to handle multiple on-going responsibilities
• Strategic thinker, who can translate conceptual issues into tangible goals and tasks
• Fluent in both written and spoken English

Education/Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance required.
• CPA preferred—or the equivalent combination of work experience and skill development.
• Five years of progressive experience working in the Finance Department of a manufacturing facility is preferred
